MESSAGE
I extend my warm greetings to the officers and staff of the Directorate of
Revenue Intelligence (DRI) on its 68th Foundation Day for their sustained
commitment and outstanding performance in combating smuggling and
safeguarding India's economic interests.
Global trade and travel are undergoing unprecedented transformation. The
rapid expansion of e-commerce, digital payments, and highly integrated trade
and logistics chains have not only created vast opportunities for economic
progress, but have also enabled criminal syndicates to exploit technology, digital
networks, and cross-border movements of goods, people and conveyances for
sophisticated smuggling and large-scale commercial frauds.
In response, DRI has shown remarkable adaptability and resolve.
Leveraging data analytics, cyber forensics, modern technological tools, and
real-time surveillance, its officers have proactively detected emerging trends,
intercepted illicit shipments, and dismantled networks across India and overseas.
The Smuggling in India Report 2024-25, released on this occasion,
documents landmark cases, highlights new modus operandi, and provides
valuable insights into illicit trade, helping to define our future strategy for
combatting new and emerging threats to economy and country.
I congratulate the DRI officers on their exemplary service and urge them to
remain vigilant, innovative, and resolute in safeguarding India's economic
security. I convey my best wishes for their sustained success and the attainment
of new milestones in the years ahead.
