MESSAGE
I extend my best compliments to the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence
(DRI) on its 68 Foundation Day and on the release of the Smuggling in India
Report 2024-25. This publication is an important resource for policymakers,
enforcement agencies, and industry, offering valuable insights into the patterns,
methods, and impact of smuggling and illicit trade.
The growing sophistication of economic offences and smuggling poses
serious challenges to revenue collection, trade facilitation, and economic growth.
The DRI's efforts in curbing tax evasion, smuggling, and commercial frauds have
been vital in securing country's fiscal interests and preserving the integrity of our
economy. The Directorate has delivered good results, dismantling syndicates
engaged in narcotics and contraband smuggling, exposing complex frauds, and
improving cross-border regulatory compliances.
A secure and transparent supply chain underpins economic stability,
growth, and investor confidence. In this regard, DRI has a vital role in ensuring a
fair, safe, and equitable business environment.
I deeply appreciate the steadfast service of DRI's officers and look forward
to their greater accomplishments in the years ahead.
