were recovered from one passenger, totally weighing about 760 grams. Upon extraction, the same resulted in 682 grams of solid gold metal.
In addition to rectum concealment, gold in powder/ paste form has also been found to be smuggled in clothing such as inner garments, jeans, etc. In the absence of specific information, it requires extraordinary alertness and astuteness on the part of airport and DRI officers to observe and detect such cases of smuggling.
Another modus operandi of gold smuggling in airports and air cargo observed is that of concealment of gold in electrical/electronic appliances such as emergency lamps, toys, belt buckle, iron, etc. One such concealment of gold in an emergency lamp is shown below
