Case 13: 29.95 kg hashish oil seized from tug
boat sailing to Maldives

In March 2025, 29.95 kg of hashish oil
was seized from a tug boat towing a barge
and sailing from Tuticorin Old Port to the
Maldives.

Case 14: 112 kg pseudoephedrine seized from quarĵ powder
shipment to Australia

In September 2024, 112 kg of pseudoephedrine inge-
niously concealed in transparent polythene covers in
37 bags (out of 450 bags of quartz), each containing
4 kg of pseudoephedrine and 46 kg of quartz,
declared to be a container of “quartz powder” des-
tined for Australia was seized at Chennai.

Factory Busts

Dismantling clandestine drug manufacturing units represents a critical front in
India’s fight against narcotics. In recent years, the DRI has intensified operations
targeting illegal drug factories across the country. These facilities, often located in
remote industrial areas, residential areas or repurposed commercial spaces, are
primarily involved in the illicit manufacture of synthetic drugs such as me-
phedrone, alprazolam, and methamphetamine. Factory busts not only result in
large-scale seizures of finished narcotics and precursor chemicals but also help
uncover wider trafficking networks and supply chains—both domestic and inter-
national.

During FY 2024-25, DRI has busted 3 factories involved in the illicit manufactur-
ing of mephedrone.
