I extend my heartiest congratulations to the Directorate of Revenue

Intelligence (DRI) on the occasion of its 68 Foundation Day. I extend my
good wishes to the officers and staff of the DRI for their dedicated service to
this Nation. The DRI plays a pivotal role in safeguarding and securing the
economic and strategic interests of the Nation by keeping a constant vigil on
smuggling of contraband, drugs, as well as the illicit international trade in
wildlife and environmentally sensitive items, and combating commercial
fraud related to international trade and evasion of customs duty. The
commitment of DRI to the pursuit of excellence and the highest standards of
professionalism is exhibited through the accolades the organisation has
earned worldwide.

I am pleased to learn that the Smuggling in India Report 2024-2025
will also be released on this occasion. The Report sheds light on the growing
threats to the country posed by organized smuggling, drug trafficking, and
illicit trade. These activities undermine legitimate commerce, erode
government revenue, and endanger the well-being of the people and the
Nation. The Report also records the notable successes that the DRI has
achieved through intelligence, innovation, and coordinated enforcement
tactics.

I wish the DRI success in all its future endeavours in fulfilling the vital
mission of protecting the interests of the Nation, which will contribute
significantly towards the vision of secure Viksit Bharat @2047.
