Smuggling in India Report 2024-25 4

            Narcotics

Narcotics trafficking is a key national security risk due to its ability to fuel orga-
nized crime, finance terrorism, and undermine the stability of state institutions.
The vast profits generated from the drug trade often fund extremist groups,
enabling them to procure weapons, train operatives, and destabilise societies.

In FY 2024-25, DRI seized significant quantities of narcotics and psychotropic
substances, including 66.42 kg of cocaine, 22.85 kg of heroin, 198.42 kg of meth-
amphetamine, and substantial amounts of other psychotropic substances such as
pseudoephedrine and alprazolam. The DRI has also successfully dismantled sever-
al clandestine laboratories engaged in the illicit manufacture of drugs such as me-
            phedrone.

Case 3: DRI seizes 7.90 kg cocaine from two Philippine nationals

In June 2024, based on specific intelligence, two Philippine nationals
arriving from Addis Ababa to Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport,
Delhi were intercepted. Examination of their baggage led to the recovery
of 7.90 kg of cocaine concealed in their trolley bags.
