b. Smuggling of Poppy Seeds
The smuggling of poppy seeds into India prevails due to high demand and strict
cultivation controls. Illicit imports, mainly from Afghanistan, Myanmar, and
Turkey harm public health and local farmers. In FY 2024-25, DRI effected 6
seizures of smuggled poppy seeds and a total of 122.18 MT of poppy seeds valued
at ₹22.28 crore were seized across different ports.
