Case 7: 1,853 Turtles seized near Kolkata
In February 2025, DRI officers inter-
cepted a truck on Belgharia Express-
way and recovered 1,853 turtles
concealed behind fish crates. The
turtles, trafficked from Andhra
Pradesh, were identified as Indian
Flapshell and Indian Softshell Tur-
tles, both protected under Schedule I
of the Wildlife (Protection) Act,
1972.
