Case 7: 423 Gold discs recovered from import consignment
In April 2024, DRI officers intercepted a consignment declared as “Lens
Centre Instrument” that had arrived from Hong Kong in Delhi. Examination
revealed 423 black circular gold discs, totaling 31.41 kg which were seized.
Case 8: Gold smuggling uncovered in DJ light consignment
In December 2024, DRI officers
examined a DJ light consignment at
Mumbai Air Cargo Complex, uncov-
ering nearly 12 kg of gold concealed
inside the lights (3 kg per unit). A sub-
sequent godown search revealed 68
similar lights, suggesting over 200 kg
of gold had been smuggled previously
using the same modus operandi.
