Significant seizures of Smuggled Cigarettes, Black Pepper and Betel Nuts
Seizure of 71 Lakh Sticks of Smuggled Cigarettes
In June 2020, officers of ORI seized 71.16 Lakh cigarettes sticks at Nhava Sheva from a 40 feet container which had arrived from Dubai (UAE), declared to contain Dates. Two persons engaged in smuggling of cigarettes were arrested in the case.
Seizure of Smuggled Cigarettes, Cosmetics and E-waste
In July 2020, officers of ORI interdicted a container at Kolkata port and seized 45 Lakh sticks of cigarettes, 570 old and used Computers, 30 MTs of Black Pepper and Cosmetics being smuggled into India using forged clearance documents.
Seizure of Smuggled Cigarettes at Hyderabad
In May 2020, officers of DRI seized 30 Lakh smuggled cigarette sticks from a truck which was transporting the same to Vijaywada. The cigarettes had been smuggled through the Inda-Myanmar border and were being transported for final consumption. The cigarettes were hidden behind stainless steel wares.
Seizure of Smuggled Cigarettes, Black pepper and Areca nuts
In an operation spanning multiple-locations, officers of DRI seized 2.88 crore cigarette sticks, 86 MT of Vietnamese Black Pepper and 94 MT of Areca Nuts from multiple containers. The containers were declared to contain Aluminium Powder imported from Dubai to India.
