Conclusion
Despite reduced import duties, gold and precious stone smuggling into India
remained a major challenge in FY 2024–25. Syndicates exploited sophisticated
concealment, insider collusion, and diverse air, land, and sea routes, taking advan-
tage of porous borders, access to high-security airport zones, and operational vul-
nerabilities. Intelligence-driven operations by DRI have resulted in the seizure of
large volumes of contraband and dismantling organized networks, including cases
involving diplomats, airline crew, and cross-border cartels.
